Many MDs and DVMs know the English language essentials very well, but still they complain of difficulty expressing themselves clearly. Learning how to communicate exactly what you mean takes time and effort. However, adopting some of the tricks of simultaneous interpretation can serve as a quick fix, at least for the time being.
I adapted certain interpretation techniques to the needs of professional communication and combined them with abridged rules of grammar to produce a custom-made course. It got the name of Intensive Care of Your English, or ICUEnglish for short.
It is currently being delivered as a part of Engilsh for Medical Professionals course at St.Petersburg State University. The interpreters at SCIT, of which I am an alumnus, also benefit from my workshop on medical interpreting.
